Job Description
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) offer therapy, exercise teaching, and patient education to improve/enhance patient well-being. Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, must follow all state laws governing the provision of physical therapy in home care, follow the treatment set only as defined by the Physical Therapist, perform only those procedures he/she is qualified and trained to perform, and make all recommendations for changes in the plan of care to the supervising Physical Therapist.

Qualifications:
- On the day that services are delivered, accurately and completely record patient care observations, interventions, and evaluations. Assist certified Therapist with patient progress note preparation.
- Follow firm rules, procedures, professional standards, federal, state, and employee codes of behavior.
- The PTA will provide people in need with the necessary rehabilitative services. This involves providing long term care and acute care patients with evaluations and the development of treatment plans.
- As needed, offer to help with projects to improve performance. If the right information is shared, gathering data and figuring out what went wrong could help find ways to make things better.
- The physical therapist should be advised to make any necessary adjustments to treatment plans and training to maximize outcomes. Documentation should be kept and submitted in accordance with the company’s and/or facility’s requirements.
- When dealing with material that is inherently secret, always be sure to maintain the highest possible standards of professional conduct. When the recipient’s right to access the information is clearly established and when it is in the patient’s best interest to share such information, only then should the information be shared.
- Provide treatment services that have been planned, delegated, and monitored by a certified Physical Therapist in accordance with the patient’s approved Plan of Treatment, observe patients while they are receiving therapy, record patient data, and report patient progress to the Physical Therapist.
- Do not wait until the last minute to record a patient’s condition and treatment plan, as well as their current status, progress, and precautions.
- Care must be organized and delivered in collaboration with other staff members, patients, and their families. Maintain an accurate record of attendance, services rendered, treatments administered, and any other required documentation.
- Maintains communication with patients, the Physical Therapist, Clinical Manager(s), and other members of the healthcare team and the community to ensure effective care coordination and referrals to relevant resources.
Skills:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of appropriate therapy principles and practices. Knowledge of therapy principles and practices that are specific to the elderly.
- Monitors the patient’s reaction to therapy as well as any changes in the patient’s condition and then communicates those observations to the supervising physical therapist, the supervising nurse, and/or the attending physician.
- a degree earned in two years from a physical therapist assistant program that is approved, Required to possess a valid driver’s license from the state, Although it is appreciated, experience working with elderly people is not essential. Capable of typing at a rate of forty words per minute
- Following the plan of care, teaches and helps patients with active and passive exercise, muscle re-education, gait, functional, ADL, transfer, safety, and prosthetic training.
- Provides education to the patient, as well as the patient’s family, caregiver, and any other members of the health care team who may be able to support the patient in some aspects of the therapeutic process.
