Qualifications:

  • According to APTA standards of practice and any state laws, conduct initial and ongoing physical therapy exams.
  • Make a strategy, make sure the patient sticks to it, and change things up as needed depending on how they’re doing.
  • Assesses and monitors a patient’s progress in terms of their muscular and sensory abilities, as well as their ability to move and do daily tasks, as well as their respiratory and circulatory systems, so that appropriate care may be provided.
  • Restore, maintain, and encourage not just the best possible physical function but also the best possible wellness, fitness, and quality of life when it comes to mobility and health.
  • By working together with the patient’s physician and other healthcare providers, the therapist is able to learn more about the individual, modify the treatment plan as needed, and better incorporate physical therapy into the patient’s overall care.
  • Appreciates the varying reimbursement structures of various insurance companies and effectively allocates therapy funds to residents with a view toward achieving their desired outcomes prior to discharge.
  • As necessary, offer direction and advice to the client’s family and/or other caregivers to support the client’s development toward a discharge plan and mutually agreed-upon goals.
  • Prevent the start, symptoms, and progression of functional limitations, disabilities, and impairments that may come from illnesses, injuries, ailments, or disorders.
  • Physical therapists teach patients how to utilize various assistive and supportive equipment, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses, as well as how to do daily living tasks and non-manual exercises.
  • Patients should be given knowledge and training in order to reduce the need for medication and to offer surgical alternatives.

Skills:

  • Qualities such as empathy, compassion, and the capacity to push patients in a responsible, safe, and constructive way are essential.
  • Working in a nursing home, hospital, or inpatient/outpatient setting is a must for this position.
  • Possessing relevant education and/or expertise in a healthcare or medical context is preferable, especially in the fields of rehabilitation, Orthopedics, and surgery.
  • The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) requires all physical therapists to graduate from an APTA-approved program.
  • The applicant needs to be a natural born leader with a constant thirst for knowledge and improvement.
