Job Description

The Phlebotomist is in charge of collecting and processing patient specimens under direct observation and recording outcomes in accordance with approved protocols. As needed, helps with specimen analysis, equipment maintenance, and quality control processes. adheres to safety and quality assurance rules and procedures. when required, aids with patient flow.

Qualifications:

  • If your doctor instructs you to take blood or other body fluids, you should follow normal venipuncture and capillary techniques to do so.
  • Maintain a clean and sterile atmosphere by cleaning the lab everyday and emptying biohazard bags.
  • Perform proper quality control for the testing and record on the relevant log. When the result(s) exceed the limitations, notify the Medical Technologist or Laboratory Manager.
  • Make sure that all essential laboratory paperwork have been filled out, including information on the tests that were performed and their results. Produce labels for specimen containers and lab form requisitions (s).
  • Customers should be treated courteously and efficiently according to departmental standards and procedures while dealing with customer service, especially when arranging difficult conversations.
  • Evaluate each request for a laboratory test in order to determine the right quantity and kind of containers that are required in order to simplify distribution to the relevant laboratory sections and reference laboratories.
  • Perform specimen handling, control, and tracking, which may include handling infectious/carcinogenic materials Inventory and order essential goods.
  • Maintaining specimen integrity while processing, packaging, and transporting specimens to the proper laboratory according to established laboratory protocols.
  • Blood draw. Independently operate laboratory equipment, including troubleshooting and arranging field repair visits as needed.
  • Understand local computer system menus as they relate to work function, including teaching technical personnel sophisticated computer tasks.

Skills:

  • To accomplish obligations, you must grasp lab materials, solutions, and media. Microsoft Excel and electronic medical records are required for data input (EMRs).
  • A diploma from high school or its equivalent is required. Laboratory experience is desirable along with an associate degree in Natural Science or Allied Health, or current participation in a program leading to a degree in Medical Laboratory Science. Helpful abilities include knowledge of medical terminology and keyboarding.
  • Effective and efficient venipuncture skills Competence in interacting cooperatively with patients and employees Organizing and time-management abilities.
  • The ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds, sit for long periods of time, and stroll between office buildings Experience working with patients, significant others, and members of their families who represent a variety of ethnic and racial groups.
  • At least six months of experience in phlebotomy and skin puncture is required for certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Insurance companies demand a valid driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility.
