Job Description
All pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical parts of the laboratory, as well as equipment inspections for quality specimen collection, will be overseen by the phlebotomist under the direction of a practice or laboratory manager or director. The Phlebotomist will adhere to all local, state, and federal guidelines. The Phlebotomist’s primary responsibility is to provide prompt and courteous service to all patients and clients, both external and internal. Interdepartmental and interdepartmental cooperation shall be maintained by the Phlebotomist.

Qualifications:
- Carry out quality control procedures that are commensurate with the testing that was carried out and record your findings in the appropriate log. Notify the Medical Technologist or the Laboratory Manager if the result(s) are beyond the acceptable range.
- Maintain a clean and sterile atmosphere by cleaning the lab everyday and emptying biohazard bags.
- Evaluate each request for a laboratory test to determine the appropriate quantity and kind of containers required for delivery to suitable laboratory sections and reference laboratories.
- Comprehend all menu paths of the local computer system in relation to the specified work function, as well as training technical employees on sophisticated computer operations.
- If your doctor instructs you to take blood or other body fluids, you should follow normal venipuncture and capillary techniques to do so.
- Properly record all tests and diagnoses using proper laboratory forms (see below). Produce labels for the forms and specimen containers, as well as lab requisition forms, to complete the lab (s).
- Drawing blood from a patient is a common procedure. As directed by the department lab professional and pathology staff, operate laboratory instruments autonomously including difficult troubleshooting and arranging field service visits.
- Process, package, and transport specimens to the proper laboratory using authorized laboratory protocols to protect specimen integrity.
- Taking care of client-related inquiries and concerns in a way that is both kind and efficient, while adhering to the rules and processes of the department, including the scheduling of complicated texts.
- It is possible that you may be required to handle potentially infectious or carcinogenic materials when performing activities related to the handling, control, and monitoring of specimens. Maintain a thorough inventory and order new supplies on an as-needed basis.
Skills:
- At least 30 pounds of lifting and carrying must be accomplished while sitting for lengthy periods of time, moving between office buildings, as well as interacting with patients, significant other(s), or other family members from diverse cultural backgrounds.

- It is required to have knowledge about certain laboratory solutions, materials, and media in order to fulfill responsibilities. Computer literacy essential for data input, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and electronic medical records.
- Or comparable. Associate degree in Natural Science/Allied Health or enrollment in Medical Laboratory Science program desirable. Lab experience preferred. Keyboarding and medical terminology beneficial.
- Phlebotomy and skin puncture knowledge and expertise are typically gained via six (6) months of experience, with ASCP certification preferred. Ability to fulfill insurance company standards with a valid driver’s license
