Job Description

The Loan Officer is in charge of overseeing their local area. They will market the client’s competitive mortgage products, services, and programs in his or her designated offices and continually identify, develop, and maintain a quality network of business relationships that will serve as a reliable source of referrals for new lending opportunities. They will also consult with clients about their present and future needs in order to assist them in meeting their financing needs. The loan officer is responsible for gathering and reviewing all required supporting loan documentation, ensuring that production and quality meet minimal criteria, and originating and closing a sufficient number of high-quality loans through sales and marketing efforts.

  • Keeps up-to-date on all corporate and investor requirements for both government- and privately-insured mortgages, including the origination, processing, appraisal, underwriting, and closing processes.
  • Writes sales reports, plans itineraries and engages in marketing and promotional activities in support of sales goals.
  • Those having trouble with their mortgage applications should contact processing and underwriting for assistance.
  • Consider the applicant’s income, credit history, and the value placed on the property in question while determining whether or not to grant a loan.
  • Improve loan applications and supporting documentation by informing the applicant of extra requirements.
  • Clients are consulted in order to gather information for loan applications and to answer any questions they may have.
  • Finding good loan candidates requires investigating prospective lending markets and establishing contact with potential referrers.
  • Instruct clients on the range of available credit and loan products and their associated terms.
  • Market products to individuals and firms, promoting Client services that meet customers’ needs.
  • To stay current in your field, it is important to participate in educational programs, read professional journals, cultivate personal networks, and join professional groups.


  • Good knowledge of retail product philosophy, policy, underwriting, procedures, documentation and systems.
  • Commonplace programs include the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Credit evaluation and market pattern recognition are two areas where analytical abilities come in handy.
  • Experience in originating new business from customers in the buying market, ideally within the last three years, and with a minimum of three years’ worth of contacts and relationships already in place.
  • The Loan Officer will be a strong communicator both verbally and in writing and have the people skills to work with a wide variety of clients.
