Qualifications:
- Get in touch with the appropriate entities as directed if you need access to medical records or other paperwork related to the case.
- Identify the correspondence that ought to be forwarded to the lawyer or other client departments.
- Set up and use an electronic journal system, as well as separate file folders for each individual case or topic.
- All meetings with attorneys, including depositions and court hearings, should be scheduled and noted.
- Staff members are provided with typed and transcribed versions of memos, letters, charts, legal documents, and other forms of correspondence.
- Provide assistance to lawyers with legal cases by typing and filing pleadings, setting up depositions, filing documents, and other similar tasks.
- Prepares and mails checks to the appropriate party in accordance with established procedures in order to facilitate payment.
- Respond to and initiate calls using the phone in a quiet and businesslike manner.
- Maintains files and records using case management software.
- Regular court dockets require correspondence, subpoenas, and other documentation to be typed and prepared.
Skills:
- It is also highly desirable to have knowledge of the principles and jargon used in the criminal justice and legal systems.
- Must be able to prepare draft documentation using Word or through templates and be able to revise and finalize as directed.
- Must be able to follow complicated instructions, manage problems or help others resolve conflicts, and possess great organizational and prioritization skills.
- The essential functions, such as but not limited to seeing, hearing, typing, and speaking, must be able to be performed with or without accommodations.
- knowledge and experience with all the latest office equipment and procedures.
