Job Description

To guarantee correct and prompt processing of financial information, the Senior Accountant engages in a range of everyday accounting tasks.   • Accounting staff workload management, planning, prioritization, allocation of tasks and projects, training personnel, keeping track of work progress, assessing performance, and frequent staff meetings to discuss workload priorities, special assignments and challenges, and technological issues.
  • To maintain the general ledger current and in compliance with FAR/GAAP, business rules, and procedures, carry out all pertinent accounting responsibilities.
  • To create, suggest, and execute procedural and system modifications to improve accuracy and efficiency, evaluate workflow processes and procedures.
  • Accounts Receivable/Payable Receivable procedures for numerous portfolio firms, including inputting daily invoices, bills, journal entries, weekly check runs, monthly accruals, and special projects.
  • Ensure timely reporting and aid with annual public audits by coordinating month-end and year-end closure processes.
  • By evaluating financial data, preparing monthly trend reports, and conducting balance sheet reconciliations, you may ensure that the financial statements are accurate.
  • Ensure that vendor invoices and check requests are paid in compliance with permission and approval procedures, and that unapproved bills are followed up on.
  • Supervise and oversee the development of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and other mandatory and special-use financial reports, in addition to assembling, evaluating, and revising financial statement schedules and supporting data.
  • Assist in the preservation of accounting and business records by implementing an electronic filing and retrieval system that allows for the instantaneous access to both past and current information.
  • Check and assess accounting records to ensure they are accurate, comprehensive, and in accordance with county policies and control processes as well as federal, state, and funding agency standards. Examine and reconcile all financial activity, transactions, and journal entries.


  • Being able to effectively explain and communicate financial principles, procedures, and detailed recommendations and directions for appropriate recordkeeping.
  • Capability to undertake a comprehensive analysis of the balance sheet and income statement accounts. The duties including recommending/executing rectifying entries, bringing up possible problems for discussion, detecting problem accounts, reviewing balances for correctness and completeness, and suggesting accrual or deferral entries as required.
  • Experience in a mid- to large-sized corporation’s accounting department, or with a public accounting firm, is preferred.
  • Production of necessary financial reporting, as well as the completion of quarterly and annual insurance statements.
  • Capable of contributing well to group projects and meetings with colleagues and people outside of the finance industry.
