Job Description

The Child Care Specialist’s job is to facilitate communication and information sharing among parents, employers, child care providers, and other relevant parties in order to help families locate suitable child care. The Child Care Specialist’s duties include liaising with families of varying socioeconomic statuses, determining their child care needs, entering this data into an enterprise resource planning system, keeping close tabs on the operation of the system, and taking the lead in the data management system’s team.

  • Provides recommendations to the State on whether to approve or deny child care provider applications and whether or not to cancel existing registrations.
  • Keep available on nights and weekends for health and safety inspections.
  • Collaborates with the department and IT to manage child care registration information.
  • Position responsibilities include instructing staff, fielding inquiries from facility owners, and providing data and resources related to child care.
  • The promotion of minimal collaboration among child care providers in a given area for the purpose of ensuring that all applicable laws are followed.
  • Establishing a community that encourages openness, honesty, and mutual regard.
  • In order to guarantee that current and potential child care providers are following state and federal guidelines, they are routinely inspected and evaluated.
  • Co-plans age-appropriate learning activities for groups of children based on factors such as group size, composition, and age range.
  • Child care providers are given suggestions for corrective action, along with deadlines for implementation.
  • Claims of mistreatment by parents or guardians are investigated and documented by social workers.


  • A Master’s Degree or the equivalent in post-baccalaureate credit hours of 36 is required. Minimum of four years’ experience in educational administration, teaching, or affiliation.
  • Possessing strong social, organizational, and communicative abilities is essential.
  • Working with low-income families and familiarity with the Child Care Resource and Referral Service or other child care programs are desirable qualifications.
  • Learning to read, assess, and interpret business journals, technical processes, and regulatory requirements is essential.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management teams, clients, the board of directors, and the general public and respond to questions.
